RAN's Twelfth Advice Forum

“Strengthening links between RBC Councillors and RAN member organisations”

The Twelfth Reading Advice Forum was an online Zoom video meeting, with a presentation by Councillor Rachel Eden and Councillor Adele Barnett-Ward on the strengthening the links between Reading Borough Council Elected Members and RAN member organisations.Strengthening links between Councillors and RAN

Its aim was to see if stronger links with Councillors could improve the help that RAN member organisations give our clients, and Councillors give their constituents, and how these stronger links could be created.

The outcome of the discussion, touched on in the report, is that Reading Borough Councillors would benefit from knowing more about RAN's member organisations and how those groups can help the Councillor's constituents. It was suggested that a booklet, summarising RAN's member's services, might be created for Councillors to be kept up-to-date with those services.

It was also suggested that RAN could make a presentation to RBC Committees:

  • How charities work
  • How they're structured
  • Why fundraising is important
  • What RAN member charities provide
  • How to get in touch with each RAN member organisation

The report (PDF) from the Forum, which includes the text of the presentation is available to download here.
